Interior minister sues activist for cyberstalking

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has filed a lawsuit against social activist Emorioloye Owolemi at the Federal High Court in Akure, Ondo State, over alleged cyberstalking.

Owolemi faces a two-count charge (FHC/AK/3C/26) accusing him of sending offensive and menacing messages to the public via Facebook, specifically targeting the minister. The alleged offences occurred on December 23, 2025, at Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area.

The first count alleges that Owolemi knowingly transmitted electronic communications that were “grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing,” in violation of Section 24(1)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, as amended in 2024. The second count charges him with cyberstalking by threat and harassment under Section 24(1)(b) of the same Act.

The court has scheduled the hearing for March 26.

The case comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the minister’s National Youth Service Corps certificate, with previous court proceedings examining allegations of forgery and abuse of office. Earlier, Justice Binta Nyako allowed Owolemi to inquire into the minister’s academic qualifications, while Justice Joyce Abdulmalik denied a similar request regarding the minister’s NYSC discharge certificate, citing lack of proof that the activist was acting in the public interest.
