IPOB Denies Issuing Death Threat to Obasanjo, Calls Viral Video AI Fabrication

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has dismissed reports claiming its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, issued death threats against former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his family, describing the allegation as a fake video generated by artificial intelligence.

In a statement on Tuesday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, said the video circulating online was fabricated by agents of the Nigerian government and their foreign collaborators to discredit Kanu.

“This alleged threat is nothing but an AI fabrication sponsored by those desperate to hold onto power,” Powerful said. “It is a continuation of last week’s fake video where they made it seem like Mazi Kanu declared himself a god. These falsehoods only show how desperate the enemies of Biafra have become.”

He noted that Kanu holds deep respect for Obasanjo and other national leaders, including former Presidents Shehu Shagari and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, as well as former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Powerful alleged that the government resorted to propaganda to divert public attention and preempt possible calls from respected figures like Obasanjo for Kanu’s release.

“The timing of this AI fabrication shows panic. They fear that President Obasanjo may soon demand Kanu’s freedom, so they released this doctored clip to distort the truth,” he said.

The IPOB spokesperson also challenged the Federal Government to present the specific law under which Kanu is being tried, insisting that the charges against him lack legal foundation.

He maintained that until the government provides clarity on the legal basis of the case, Kanu would not enter his defence at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
