ISWAP finance chief surrenders to troops in Borno

A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, the Nigerian Army has announced.

The Army disclosed this in a statement issued late Saturday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, describing the development as another significant breakthrough in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

According to the statement, the insurgent surrendered at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route.

The Army said the suspect surrendered alongside two male children following sustained land and air offensives against terrorist enclaves.

Preliminary profiling identified him as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he was allegedly responsible for managing the group’s finances and logistics.

Items recovered from him included an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle and ₦40,000 in cash.

The Army said the suspect is undergoing profiling and interrogation to obtain intelligence that could support ongoing military operations against the insurgent group.

It noted that the surrender represents another setback for ISWAP, saying it reflects increasing pressure on the group’s command structure and logistics network.

The military also disclosed that about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days, attributing the development to sustained kinetic and intelligence-led operations across the theatre.

Operation HADIN KAI reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East and urged remaining insurgents to embrace the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by surrendering.

The Army also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
