Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered a revealing document belonging to fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province following a failed assault on Malam Fatori in Borno State.
After the clash subsided, soldiers searching the outskirts of the town discovered an “operational notebook” abandoned by fleeing insurgents.
Rather than just weapons or logistics equipment, the find offered a rare glimpse into the internal workings of the group.
The notebook reportedly contained detailed records, including names of fighters, weapons issued, and motorcycles allocated for operations, all carefully documented in an organized manner.
In a striking detail, the record also listed fighters who had taken loans, suggesting a structured internal system for managing resources and logistics within the group.
Security sources said the discovery highlights both the level of coordination within ISWAP and the extent of losses suffered during the failed operation, as many of those listed are believed to have been killed in the encounter.
The find is expected to aid ongoing intelligence efforts, providing insights into the group’s structure, supply chain, and operational methods.
