Jos mother places cutlass in slain son’s coffin, demands revenge

A grieving mother, Mrs Favour Ayuba, whose son, Promise, was killed during the recent attack in Jos, Plateau State, has stirred emotions online after a viral video showed her placing a cutlass in his coffin and calling on him to avenge his death.

The emotional scene, captured in a video circulating on Friday, showed Mrs Ayuba speaking in Hausa through tears as she mourned her son, who was among those killed in the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

The March 29 attack, allegedly carried out by suspected terrorists, claimed at least 24 lives and left several others injured.

In the latest clip, the bereaved mother brought out a cutlass wrapped in white cloth, reportedly hidden beneath her clothes, and gently placed it inside her late son’s coffin.

Overcome with grief, she appealed to her son to seek justice for his killing.

“If you want me to forget, avenge your death. I carried you in my womb for nine months and nursed you.

“Please, wherever they are, follow them and avenge your death,” she said.

Mrs Ayuba also revealed that she had not eaten since the day of the attack, saying the pain of losing her son had left her heartbroken.

She noted that the burial day coincided with his birthday and recalled naming him Promise Gideon Ayuba, drawing strength from the biblical story of Gideon, who went to battle and returned victorious.

“Today is your birthday. I thank God that today is your birthday.

“You do not like seeing me cry, and I will not continue to weep. I have not eaten since Sunday, but from today I promise I will eat,” she added.

The heartbreaking video has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, reflecting the depth of pain felt by families affected by the recurring violence in Plateau State.
