Kaduna journalists demand release of abducted worshipper

The Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum (SKJF) has called on the Kaduna State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts towards securing the immediate and unconditional release of worshippers abducted from Ariko village in Kachia Local Government Area during this year’s Easter celebrations, alongside other kidnap victims still being held across the region.

In a communiqué issued after its meeting in Kaduna and signed by its Chairman, Ango Bally, and Secretary, Lilian Silas, the forum described the security situation in several communities across Southern Kaduna as alarming, disturbing and unacceptable.

According to the forum, recurring attacks, kidnappings and threats to lives have severely affected economic activities, displaced many families, disrupted farming and commercial activities, and created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the affected communities, with the persistent insecurity undermining socio-economic development and worsening the humanitarian situation in the region.

The forum further expressed concern over reports that some communities had resorted to negotiating with bandits and other criminal elements for survival and protection, noting that the development reflected growing desperation among residents and underscored the urgent need for stronger government intervention and improved security presence in vulnerable areas.

Despite these concerns, the journalists commended Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive style of governance and his engagement with various stakeholders across the state, urging him to sustain the approach and deepen consultations with communities affected by insecurity as part of efforts to promote peace, stability and development in Southern Kaduna.
