Kaduna teen gets 10 strokes for cable theft

An 18-year-old boy was on Wednesday sentenced to 10 strokes of the cane by a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for breaking into a house and stealing electrical cables valued at N450,000.

The convict, who resides in Kinkinau, Kaduna, pleaded guilty to the charge, prompting Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel to issue a lenient sentence.

Emmanuel noted that the teenager’s admission of guilt saved the court time and resources and expressed hope that the punishment would deter others from similar crimes.

The magistrate also ordered that the recovered cables be returned to the rightful owner, Sadiq Yusuf.
