Kano: 68 inmates record success in 2025 NECO exams

The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced that 68 inmates have successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Kano. He said the achievement was made possible under the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.

According to him, the milestone reflects the implementation of the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which prioritises the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through education and vocational training.

“This success also aligns with the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging custodial centres nationwide to enroll inmates in academic and vocational programmes to prepare them for reintegration into society as responsible and productive citizens,” Lawan noted.

He added that the initiative complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to transform the lives of Nigerians, including those in custodial facilities.

The statement quoted beneficiaries of the programme as expressing joy over their success, describing it as a turning point in their lives.

The Controller of Corrections in Kano, Mr. Ado Inuwa, also commended the inmates for their performance and wished them success on their path to full reformation.

Similarly, the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, congratulated the inmates and applauded Governor Abba Yusuf for his compassion and sustained support for inmates’ welfare.

She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for inmates, stressing that such initiatives would empower them to become positive ambassadors of society.
