Kano APC hints at Gov Yusuf’s registration as party member

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Abdullahi Abbas, has disclosed that Governor Abba Yusuf may register and collect the party’s membership card between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Abbas made this known while addressing about 1,500 ad hoc staff engaged to conduct the party’s ongoing electronic registration (e-registration) exercise in the state.

He explained that the commencement of the e-registration was deliberately delayed to allow the party’s leader in Kano, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the governor to return to the state after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

“Be on standby. We may call on you tomorrow, Tuesday, depending on the arrival of the party leader, Ganduje, and the governor in Kano. But it will not go beyond Wednesday,” Abbas said.

The APC chairman urged the ad hoc staff to register all interested persons without discrimination, stressing that the party is open to everyone. He also revealed that a reward system would be introduced for local government areas and wards that record the highest number of registered members.

According to him, the e-registration exercise is crucial, as only registered members will be eligible to vote or be voted for within the party. He added that the delay in Kano was due to recent political developments, including reports of the governor’s possible defection, which the party felt should be accommodated respectfully.

“We were left behind in the nationwide exercise because of political developments in the state. The process started about two weeks ago in other states, but we felt it was not proper to rush without giving room for those willing to join the party,” he stated.

Abbas said the APC in Kano aims to surpass all other states, including Lagos, in the number of registered members before the exercise ends later this month. He noted that incentives would be given to high-performing local governments and wards, as earlier indicated by Dr. Ganduje.

He further explained that only individuals with valid voter cards and National Identification Numbers (NIN) would be eligible for the e-registration, stressing that such data would help the party measure its strength ahead of future elections.

The APC chairman assured party members that sacrifices being made now would yield positive results ahead of the next election cycle, adding that the party remains committed to inclusiveness and internal democracy.
