Kano assembly suspends Rano LG chairman

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Rano Local Government Council, Muhammad Naziru Ya’u, for three months over alleged misconduct.

The suspension, announced during Wednesday’s plenary presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore, followed the presentation of an investigative report by the House Committee on Public Petition.

Committee Chairman and Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini Dala, said the probe was prompted by a petition signed by nine of the ten councillors in Rano, accusing Ya’u of financial mismanagement, illegal sale of shops, and diversion of fertilizer meant for the council.

Although the chairman denied the allegations, the committee cited Section 128 of the Constitution and Section 55 (1–6) of the Kano State Local Government Law 2006 to recommend his suspension, allowing for a full investigation.

The Assembly also directed the immediate submission of Rano LGA’s 2025 financial statement and appointed the vice chairman to act in Ya’u’s stead during the suspension.

The council will operate under temporary legislative oversight until the probe is concluded.
