After a prolonged seven-year trial, the Kano State High Court has sentenced Aminu Muhammad to death by hanging for the gruesome murder of a three-year-old girl, Rafi’atu Junaidu.
Justice Maryam Sabo delivered the verdict on Wednesday, finding Muhammad guilty of luring the child to a farm in Jibga village, Bebeji Local Government Area, in 2018, where he strangled her and mutilated her body.
Court records revealed that Muhammad slit the girl’s abdomen with a broken bottle and removed her intestines in a chilling act of violence.
Testimonies from three prosecution witnesses and evidence presented by the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Badawiyya Shehu Bala, led to the conviction.
During the trial, it also emerged that Muhammad may have been promised N400,000 by an unidentified person to commit the murder.
The alleged instigator remains unknown, and investigations into the claim are still ongoing.
Describing the crime as “inhuman and brutal,” Justice Sabo said the court’s ruling should serve as a warning to others.
“The court finds the accused guilty as charged and hereby sentences him to death by hanging,” she declared.
