Iran executes man spying for Israel

Iran has executed a man accused of working as a spy for Israel’s intelligence agency, amid heightened tensions across the region.

According to Tasnim News Agency, the suspect was arrested in a rural area west of Tehran during the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel in June. Authorities alleged that he provided images and sensitive information on strategic locations to Mossad.

The execution comes as violence in the Middle East continues to escalate, with ongoing missile strikes and air raids between rival forces.

Iranian authorities have detained several individuals on suspicion of espionage since the June conflict, with reports suggesting that more than 10 people may have been executed, although this figure remains unconfirmed.

Human rights groups have consistently criticised Iran’s use of the death penalty, arguing that it is often used to suppress dissent.

Data from the United Nations indicates that over 1,000 executions were carried out in Iran in the past year alone.
