Kano govt orders new appointees to declare assets

The Kano State Government has ordered all newly appointed political office holders to immediately declare their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in governance.

The directive was announced on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, during a Special Capacity Building Workshop for top government officials in Kaduna.

According to him, the measure aims to ensure openness in public officers’ financial dealings, prevent conflicts of interest, and strengthen good governance across the state.

“All political appointees recently appointed by the Kano State Government are directed to immediately declare their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau,” the SSG stated, stressing that the exercise is both a legal requirement and a reflection of integrity and accountability in public service.

He reaffirmed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to upholding transparency and enforcing high ethical standards in public administration.

The directive coincided with the swearing-in of two newly confirmed commissioners — Barrister Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, SAN-designate, as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, and Dr. Aliyu Isa-Aliyu, Associate Professor and Statistician-General, as Commissioner for Livestock Development.

Additionally, Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir was sworn in as Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice.

The move underscores the Kano State Government’s resolve to strengthen accountability frameworks and institutional reforms in its public service.
