Kano man sentenced to 50 strokes of cane for stealing roofing sheets

A Sharia Court in Kano on Friday sentenced a 35-year-old man, Sabiu Abdullahi, to 50 lashes for stealing five roofing sheets.

Abdullahi, a resident of Mariri Quarters in Kano, was charged with trespass and theft in violation of Sections 134 and 287 of the Kano State Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecution counsel, Zahradeen Abubakar, told the court that the theft was reported by Anas Yakubu of Tamburawa Quarters on July 21.

He said Abdullahi unlawfully entered Yakubu’s residence while he was away and stole the roofing sheets.

Presiding over the case, Judge Malam Umar Lawal found Abdullahi guilty and ordered that he receive 50 strokes of the cane as punishment.
