Authorities in Katsina State have ordered the closure of schools in Guga district, Bakori Local Government Area of the state, after a fresh wave of bandit attacks in the region.

The most recent attack occurred on Thursday in Dabaro, Faskari Local Government Area, where suspected bandits reportedly killed several residents and rustled dozens of cattle, heightening fears over the deteriorating security situation in southern Katsina.

A security analyst, Bakatsine, confirmed the incident via his verified X account, stating: “This morning, bandits attacked Dabaro in Faskari LGA, Katsina State.

“They killed several people and rustled many cattle. Insecurity in Katsina South continues to deteriorate, as residents report the closure of schools in Guga due to rising threats.”

Police arrest fake EFCC operatives for kidnapping student in Niger State

Katsina is one of several states in northwestern and central Nigeria grappling with persistent insecurity caused by armed groups commonly referred to as bandits.

These groups are notorious for carrying out deadly raids, kidnappings, and cattle rustling, often operating from camps hidden in the expansive forests across Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states.

The ongoing violence has forced the closure of numerous schools in recent years, particularly following high-profile cases of student abductions.
