An associate professor of Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil, Huzaifa Karfi, who was kidnapped while delivering ransom to secure release of village head of Karfi earlier abducted, has been freed.

Sources close to the victim confirmed to The Star that Dr. Karfi, who was released on Saturday afternoon at Zaria where he went to deliver ransom money on Wednesday, is currently on his way to Kano.

The Star earlier reported that the university lecturer was held under captivity while delivering ransom to secure freedom for his relative, the village head of Karfi in the Takai Local Government of Kano State, Abdulyahyah Ilu.

According to sources familiar with the development, Dr. Karfi was held in captivity by the kidnappers because a member of the syndicate was earlier captured by vigilante group that trailed the abductors into the bush to rescue Sarkin Karfi.

The Star had reported that suspected kidnappers have killed six persons in Karfi village of Takai Local Government Area of Kano State after a raid and abducted the 53-year-old village head, Abdullahi Ilu.

They were said to have stormed the village on three motorcycles from Bauchi State through Ringim forest in Jigawa.

Sarkin Karfi was reportedly freed at Burra forest in Bauchi and his ransom was directed to be delivered in Zaria.

The Star could not confirm whether the condition for the release of the suspected kidnapper arrested by the vigilante was met before the release of Dr. Karfi.

All efforts to reach Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, for comments prove abortive.
