Lagos seals over 20 properties for planning violations

The Lagos State Government has sealed more than 20 properties in Ikeja Local Government Area over violations of the state’s physical planning regulations.

The enforcement exercise was carried out by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority as part of efforts to ensure compliance with planning laws and promote orderly urban development.

According to a statement issued by the state government on Saturday, the operation was led by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Olayinka Wasiu, alongside the General Manager of the authority, Kehinde Osinaike, and other senior officials.

The affected properties included vacant plots, uncompleted buildings and structures with unauthorised extensions found to be in breach of the Lagos State Physical Planning Law.

Speaking during the exercise, Wasiu said the action was aimed at preventing building collapse, maintaining orderly physical development and enforcing compliance with the state’s planning regulations.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property by ensuring that all developments conform to approved planning standards, adding that strict enforcement would help create a safer, more resilient and sustainable built environment across the state.

Wasiu disclosed that the affected property owners had been served contravention notices and given the opportunity to regularise their developments before the enforcement exercise commenced.

He urged developers and property owners to obtain the required planning permits and approvals before undertaking any construction or structural modification, warning that violations of the law would continue to attract enforcement measures.
