LG Electronics donates solar-powered borehole to Kano community

LG Electronics has unveiled a solar-powered borehole for the Kawaji Saunar MamaU community in the Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

LG Electronics described the initiative as a bold move to tackle the pressing issue of access to clean water.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics, Paul Mba, said the initiative was part of LG’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme dedicated to fostering sustainable development and elevating the quality of life for communities.

Mbah expressed the company’s commitment to sustainability and community empowerment, saying: “Water is a basic necessity. At LG, we are dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance lives.

“By integrating solar power into this project, we guarantee that the community will enjoy long-term access to clean water without the burden of high energy costs.

“What makes this borehole particularly remarkable is its innovative use of solar energy. Unlike traditional systems that depend on electricity or manual pumping, this solar-powered borehole harnesses the abundant sunlight in Kano to pump water from underground sources. This not only ensures a reliable supply but also keeps operational costs low.”

On his part, the Chairman of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Yusuf Imam, commended the collaborative efforts that made the project possible, stating, “This is a shining example of how private sector involvement can lead to meaningful change.

“We encourage more organisations to invest in community development like LG has done today.”

The local leaders and residents commended LG for the “impactful contribution”.

Kabir Tijjani Hashim, Turakin Kano, District Head Kawaji Saunar, said: “This project is a lifeline for our community. Before, we faced daily struggles just to access clean water. Now, thanks to LG, we have a sustainable solution right at our doorstep.

Umar Adamu from the Kawaji Area added: “This borehole will transform our lives. We no longer have to risk our health by relying on distant water sources.

“Clean water is essential for our families, and we are deeply thankful for this support.”

According to the company, the borehole is equipped with a state-of-the-art purification system that ensures the water meets safe drinking standards.

It is poised to benefit hundreds of households, significantly reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases and improving overall community health.

It was gathered that residents in various rural areas of Kano State have for long been facing the daunting challenge of obtaining potable water, often trekking for miles to unreliable sources.
