Corps members serving across the country have been advised to adopt modest lifestyles, manage their finances wisely, and develop a culture of saving.
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, gave the advice during an address to corps members at the NYSC Kaduna State Temporary Orientation Camp in Kurmi-Mashi, Kaduna.
According to a statement shared on the scheme’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Nafiu cautioned against extravagant living, urging corps members to remain disciplined and financially prudent throughout their service year.
He also encouraged them to take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, noting that it offers opportunities to gain practical skills for self-reliance.
The DG explained that the scheme has established partnerships with various stakeholders who provide support such as low-interest loans, grants, and starter packs to help corps members launch businesses.
“Don’t waste your time because time is precious. Be diligent during your post-camp SAED training,” he advised, adding that participants should start small and grow their ventures gradually.
Earlier, the NYSC Kaduna State Coordinator, Mrs Efeke Dadaza, presented a situation report, revealing that a total of 2,896 corps members were registered at the camp.
She disclosed that the figure includes 2,198 corps members deployed to Kaduna State and 698 dislodged from the Federal Capital Territory.
Dadaza noted that the corps members have adjusted well to camp life and are actively participating in all orientation activities.
