Liverpool fans attack Man United team bus

The team bus of Manchester United was attacked by Liverpool fans before Sunday’s Premier League clash at Anfield.

Some objects were understood to have been thrown at United’s coach as it approached Anfield.

Part of a window on the upper deck of the bus was smashed, with footage on social media appearing to show it was the result of a glass bottle being thrown.

Liverpool said they “utterly condemn” attacks on United’s team bus and vowed to punish those responsible.

The club said in a statement: “Liverpool Football Club utterly condemns the actions that led to damage being caused to the Manchester United team bus during its arrival at Anfield this afternoon.

“We are aware of footage of the incident circulating online and are working with Merseyside Police, to fully investigate and identify those responsible.

“Any individuals found guilty of this reprehensible behaviour will also face the full force of the club’s sanction process.”

Sunday’s clash ended in a 0-0 draw at Anfield, leaving Liverpool second in the Premier League behind leaders Arsenal, and United eighth in the table.

United and Liverpool share a long-standing rivalry, with a number of incidents reported between fans over the years.

A United fan was arrested at the FA Cup final at Wembley in June for wearing a shirt which had an offensive reference to the Hillsborough disaster, where 97 Liverpool fans died.

In April 2022, United condemned fans who chanted “unacceptable” songs about Hillsborough.

Both clubs called on fans to end “tragedy chanting” and online abuse in March.

United’s closest rivals, Manchester City, claimed their team bus was attacked outside Anfield last November after a defeat.

Liverpool were also fined in 2018 after fans attacked the City bus before a Champions League match.
