LP suspends Gov Otti, Kingibe, Nwokocha, others for anti-party activities

The Labour Party (LP) has announced the indefinite suspension of six prominent members, including Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti and Senators Darlington Nwokocha and Ireti Kingibe over alleged anti-party activities.

The decision, reached during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday, follows the submission of a report by a five-member Disciplinary Committee set up on May 2.

The committee, chaired by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, including National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, was tasked with investigating key figures accused of undermining party interests.

The suspended individuals are: Dr. Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, Hon. Amobi Ogah and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi.

According to the party, the suspension is indefinite and takes immediate effect.

The affected members have been barred from representing the LP in any capacity.

Relevant institutions, including the Nigeria Governors Forum, INEC, and security agencies, have been notified of the development.

Meanwhile, the party addressed the omission of Nenadi Usman from the suspension list, clarifying that she is not a registered member of the LP but rather an affiliate through the Obidient support movement.

The party further accused Usman of political inconsistency, noting her recent public alignment with another political party.

In a sharp rebuttal to Usman’s recent comments on corruption, the LP challenged her to publicly explain the details of her plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), including the properties she allegedly forfeited and her business dealings in Nigeria and abroad.

The party defended its financial integrity, claiming that its audited accounts were reviewed and commended by INEC for transparency.

It stated that, among all political parties in Nigeria, Labour Party’s financial records rank among the most credible.

On the issue of political alliances, the party reiterated its position against any merger or coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The Labour Party will prosecute the 2027 election as a stand-alone party.”

The statement emphasized, adding that those pushing for coalitions lack the competence to manage such arrangements.

The party concluded by reaffirming its commitment to internal discipline, transparency, and independent political strategy.
