Man arrested for killing father in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, for allegedly killing his biological father, Adone Peter, following a violent altercation in Akure.

The incident occurred in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his 65-year-old father during a dispute on May 28.

According to the police, the confrontation escalated into a physical assault during which the elderly man sustained serious injuries, particularly to the head.

“The deceased was immediately rushed to a medical facility for treatment, but despite efforts by medical personnel, he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor,” Jimoh said.

He explained that the case was reported to the police by Daniel Moses, a son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, prompting detectives to launch an investigation.

Following the report, police operatives arrested Kingsley and took him into custody for interrogation.

Jimoh disclosed that the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

He added that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice and warned against resorting to violence in resolving disputes.

He urged residents to embrace peaceful and lawful means of handling disagreements, regardless of the circumstances.
