Man City sign Nunes from Wolves, Cole Palmer joins Chelsea

Premier League champions, Manchester City, have completed the signing of midfielder Matheus Nunes from Wolves in a £53 million deal.

The 25-year-old player’s move to City is a club record sale for Wolves, who have a 10 per cent sell on fee on any future profit City make on Nunes.

The former Sporting midfielder becomes City’s fourth major summer signing following the arrivals of Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic, and Jeremy Doku to take the treble winners’ spending to £216.1 million.

City had been looking for a creative midfielder after Kevin De Bruyne was ruled out for several months with a hamstring injury he suffered in the first game of the season against Burnley.

Wolves signed Nunes in a club-record £42.2 million deal last summer, paying an initial £38 million plus £4.2 million in add-ons.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have completed a deal to sign City winger, Cole Palmer, on Transfer Deadline Day.

The Blues will pay an initial £40 million with £2.5 million in add-ons which takes the spending at Chelsea under the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership to £1.02 billion.

It will also take their spending this summer alone to £419 million.

In over five years and 11 transfer windows at Tottenham, Chelsea coach, Mauricio Pochettino’s former club, he only spent £412 million.

Palmer has signed a seven-year contract with the option of a further year and will join up with the Chelsea squad ahead of their Premier League fixture at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

On signing for Chelsea, Palmer said: “I’m excited to get started and it feels great to sign. I’ve joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents.

“It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special here.”

Palmer played in City’s Premier League opener against Burnley and was on the bench for the last two games.
