The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has scheduled a Special National Prayer for Nigeria on September 30 at the Abuja National Mosque Complex.
The prayer, convened under the leadership of the NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will hold from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
In a statement on Tuesday, the council’s Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, said the gathering would provide Muslims with an opportunity to seek divine guidance, protection and blessings for Nigeria.
The prayer will focus on peace, security, good governance, unity and the progress of the country.
The programme will precede the NSCIA General Assembly, which is scheduled to take place at the same venue on October 1 from 10:00 a.m.
The General Assembly, the highest decision-making organ of the council, is expected to bring together Muslim leaders, public office holders and representatives of Islamic organisations and State Councils for Islamic Affairs from across the country.
Among those expected at the meeting are the Sultan of Sokoto; the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede; and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.
Muslim governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, heads of government agencies and representatives of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are also expected to participate.
According to the council, the General Assembly will provide an opportunity for consultation and deliberation on matters concerning the NSCIA, the Muslim Ummah and the country.
The NSCIA urged invited participants and stakeholders to make arrangements to attend the two-day programme.
It also called on Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, peaceful coexistence and initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s stability and development.
