Man hires assassin to kill wife’s lover

An Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of three defendants over an alleged murder case filed against them by the police.

Those remanded are Sunday Sojunu, 35; his wife, Toyin, 31; and an alleged accomplice, Dare Sampson, 32.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the trio are facing a three-count charge in connection with the death of 45-year-old Ayoola Bello in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

The charges were read in court, but their pleas were not taken.

Magistrate O.O. Adeosun directed that the two male defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, while the female defendant be kept at the Kirikiri facility. The case file was also ordered to be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The matter was adjourned until January 21, 2026.

Prosecutor ASP Kehinde Olatunde told the court that the defendants were arrested on December 8 following investigations into the incident. He alleged that Toyin became acquainted with the deceased through social media, and later events allegedly led to a plot to lure him to Ikorodu, where he was attacked.

The police further alleged that the suspects demanded money from the victim’s family and that the incident eventually resulted in his death.

The offences, according to the police, contravene Sections 165, 222 and 233 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. Section 222 prescribes the death penalty upon conviction for murder.
