Veteran Nigerian rapper MI Abaga has opened up about his personal journey to marriage, revealing how he once struggled with feelings of regret as his peers settled down and started families while he remained single.
Speaking on the Jay On Air Podcast, the rapper candidly shared that he felt left behind in his late 30s, especially as friends who married in their mid-20s were already raising teenagers or sending their children off to college.
“I felt a little bad about being unmarried at 37 because my friends who got married at 25 or 26 now have 14-year-old kids.
“Some had kids early, even without getting married — my brother Jesse has a 21-year-old child, and I don’t have any yet. So, you miss out on some of that,” he said.
However, MI added that he has no regrets now.
Just a year after ending a previous relationship, he met his now-wife and everything fell into place.
“There are no complaints because I got the chance to meet this beautiful woman I’m now married to.
“I really believe there was some divine timing in it. When you’re not ready, you’re not ready. Everyone’s timeline is different — something people forget these days,” he said.
Reflecting on his past, the rapper admitted he wasn’t always mature in previous relationships and acknowledged his own flaws.
“I do feel sad when I think about how I was in those earlier relationships.
“I met a lot of kind, supportive women, but I was immature and stubborn.”
MI revealed that he met his wife around his 40th birthday, proposed soon after, and they tied the knot when he turned 41.
