The Headquarters Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, has assured residents of the region of robust security arrangements ahead of the upcoming Eid el-Kabir celebrations scheduled for May 28, 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, the task force spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said comprehensive measures had already been put in place across the theatre of operations to guarantee a peaceful festive period, despite the lingering threat from insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.
The command extended Eid greetings to Muslim faithful, expressing hope for a peaceful and joyful celebration across the North-East.
According to the military, intelligence reports indicate that remnants of insurgent groups may attempt isolated attacks during the festivities, particularly targeting crowded civilian areas using improvised explosive devices and suicide bombers.
However, the task force emphasized that such threats have been anticipated, with proactive steps taken to counter them. Troops have been strategically deployed to vulnerable locations, while surveillance and intelligence operations have been intensified.
The statement added that security patrols have been stepped up, with close collaboration involving other security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilance groups to prevent any breach of peace.
Residents were urged to remain alert throughout the celebrations, avoid unnecessary large gatherings, and promptly report any suspicious movements or items to authorities. The military also advised that Eid prayers and festivities be held within familiar and nearby environments.
The public was further encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during routine checks and to refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause panic.
Operation HADIN KAI also called on traditional and religious leaders, as well as the media and community stakeholders, to support security efforts by promoting timely and accurate information sharing.
Reaffirming its readiness, the command stated that troops are fully prepared and committed to ensuring that the celebrations take place in a safe and secure environment, free from any disruption.
