Murder of Deborah calls for concern over Christians’ safety in North — Group

A Lagos-based group, Christain Conscience, has said that the gruesome murder of Deborah Samuel, who was killed for alleged blasphemy in Sokoto State, calls for concern over the safety of Christians studying in northern states.

The group, however, urged political and religious leaders to train and educated youths who have been brainwashed with fanatical issues in the country.

The Christian Conscience said this in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Tunji Oguntuase, on Monday.

It added: “Deborah was alleged to have shared an offensive material insulting Prophet Muhammad on a school WhatsApp group. This is not a good action but is an allegation.

“The holy scriptures all condemn killings and true believers should never decide that the life of a fellow human being is in their hands. Religion does not accept ‘Jungle Justice ‘ even the laws of the land.

“We humbly suggest to all political and religious leaders to always ensure they give proper training and education to their teeming youths who have been brainwashed on fanatical issues instead of moving upwards as the world is progressing

”To our religious leaders, the time has come to constructively engage your counterparts on the need to properly train their children so as to ensure lasting peace in Nigeria.

“We offer our condolences to the families of Deborah Yakubu, nobody deserves to lose a loved one especially not in a terrible way as this. May God console the family,” the group stated.
