My father foretold his death —Uma Ukpai’s son

Dwight Uma, one of the sons of the late renowned evangelist, Rev Uma Ukpai, has revealed that his father foresaw his death before it happened.

Speaking about his father’s life and legacy, Dwight described the revered preacher as a man of deep faith, unwavering integrity, and total devotion to God’s service. He said Rev Ukpai’s entire life was built around spreading the gospel and living by example, inspiring both his family and followers to pursue a life of truth and holiness.

According to him, the late evangelist lived a disciplined and selfless life, prioritising his divine calling above personal comfort or family time. Despite frequent travels across Nigeria and beyond for crusades, Dwight said his father always found time to reconnect with his children whenever he returned home, often encouraging them to live for God and serve humanity.

Dwight noted that the family made many sacrifices in support of their father’s ministry, including his long absences during their formative years. He, however, said they never resented it, as they grew to understand that he was fulfilling a divine assignment.

He recalled that the revered cleric remained fearless and full of faith throughout his life, often embarking on evangelistic missions in volatile regions despite warnings and potential risks. “Fear was never part of him,” Dwight said.

Dwight further revealed that Rev Ukpai had at one time predicted his own passing, saying he would depart at a divinely appointed time. He added that in the days leading up to his death, the evangelist gave subtle signs and final words to his family, including a touching message to one of his children to “take care of your mother.”

He described his father as a man who valued unity among Christian leaders, maintaining cordial relationships with other prominent clerics such as Pastor E.A. Adeboye, Papa Ayo Oritsejafor, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, and the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa.

Dwight emphasised that his father’s ministry was never about wealth or fame but about genuine devotion to God and obedience to divine instruction.

He added that Rev Ukpai would want Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayer and faith, reminding the nation that “those who truly know how to pray face no impossibilities.”

Dwight concluded that his father’s greatest legacy remains his unwavering faith, humility, and lifelong commitment to drawing people closer to God.
