Naira closes week at N1,417/$

The naira closed the week stronger on Friday, January 16, 2026, appreciating against the United States dollar at the official market to trade at N1,417.94.

Data released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira gained N1.33.

This represents a 0.09 per cent gain when compared to Thursday, when it traded at N1,419.28 to a dollar.

The local currency which has remained relatively stable due to CBN reforms, experienced weeklong gain.

On Monday and Tuesday, it traded at N1,421.45 and N1,419.65, representing a N1.79 gain.

The currency opened the trading week on Monday, with a gain of N1.70.

However, the local currency recorded slight loss of 37 kobo on Wednesday, when it traded at N1,420.03.

The naira bounced back on Thursday with 75 kobo gain, before closing the week stronger on Friday.
