NDLEA arrests 75-year-old woman for drug dealing, seizes cocaine in Imo

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 75-year-old woman, Sekinat Soremekun, for dealing in illicit drugs in Lagos State.

The 75-year-old woman was arrested by the NDLEA officers in the Oshodi area of Lagos State on Friday, December 15, 2023.

The spokesperson for the anti-drug agency, Femi Babafemi, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Sunday, December 17.

Babafemi noted that at the time of the woman’s arrest, quantities of cannabis and litres of codeine syrup were recovered from her.

“She claimed her son, Segun who is now at large supplied her the illicit substances which she retailed,” the NDLEA spokesman added.

He stated that the NDLEA operatives, on patrol along the Owerri-Onitsha expressway in Imo State on Thursday, December 14, intercepted a way-billed consignment containing cocaine weighing 2.287kg.

Babafemi disclosed that the shipment coming from Lagos was concealed in cellophane condoms, and heading to Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He said a 45-year-old suspect, Isaac Okoh, was arrested in connection with the shipment.

The NDLEA spokesperson added that no fewer than 10 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 100kg were recovered from the ceiling of a 35-year-old dealer, Ibrahim Yahaya, when his house was raided in the Tudun Kofa area of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Friday, December, 15.

Babafemi noted that Yahaya was also arrested.

He added that 17 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 195.8kg and stored in a bush at Gbanke village in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State were recovered by NDLEA operatives on Wednesday, December 13.

He said the anti-narcotic officers also intercepted two suspects, Edun Olowokou and Tunde Elijah, at the Alamutu roundabout area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, with bags of cannabis sativa weighing 279kg.

Babafemi further quoted the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), as urging the officers of the anti-drug agency to intensify the offensive action tempo against drug cartels as the yuletide season approaches while maintaining an equal balance with their drug demand reduction efforts.
