NDLEA foils bid to smuggle drugs into Lagos from Ghana

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have foiled an attempt by a suspected trans-border trafficker, Emmanuel Okechukwu Okeke, to smuggle 50,000 pills of tramadol 225mg from Ghana into Lagos State.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, November 17, 2024, said the illicit drugs were concealed in the body compartments of a Toyota Hummer Bus belonging to GUO Transport Company, driven by the suspect.

Babafemi said the vehicle was intercepted in the Ijanikin area of the Lagos-Badagry expressway while coming from Ghana on Saturday, November 16.

Babafemi added that 997kg of cannabis was recovered during raids in parts of Edo State.

He disclosed that 680kg of cannabis and a Sienna bus were seized at a bush path to Oghada forest in Oghada, Orhionmwan Local Government Area, while 180.5kg of the same substance was recovered from a 31-year-old suspect, Cecilia Ibe, at Ofosu forest in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.
