The Federal Government has approved over N821 million for the procurement of 32 operational vehicles for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made this known while briefing newsmen at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.

The Council’s meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The Council approved that the NDLEA buys 32 operational vehicles to enhance its operations.

“I am sure we have all noticed that there has been an improved performance on the part of the NDLEA in the last couple of months.

“Resulting from this enhanced performance, there has been the need for more operational vehicles.

“The good thing about the request is that all the operational vehicles are being bought from local vehicle assembly plants.

“The total cost is N821.7 million,” the minister said.

Also, the FEC approved the lease of three Airbus and Boeing aircraft for planned national carrier, Nigeria Air.

Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, announced that the airline would begin with domestic routes, then expands to regional and intercontinental routes.

He was not specific with the actual date for the take-off of the airline operations.

“We will announce commencement soon,” the minister said.

Nigeria Air was unveiled in July 2018 during the Farnborough Air Show in England. Thereafter, the project was suspended.
