The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested a 27-year-old man, Umar Adamu-Umar, for allegedly trafficking 9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, popularly known as Colorado, valued at over N10 million.
The command’s spokesperson, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Kano.
He said the suspect, a resident of Fagge Local Government Area, was intercepted on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano Road by operatives attached to the NDLEA Kiru Area Command while transporting 19 parcels of the illicit drug from Lagos to Kano.
According to him, Adamu-Umar, who had been under surveillance for some time, confessed to being involved in the illegal trade.
Muhammad-Maigatari noted that the interception dealt a major blow to the drug trafficking network by denying them substantial revenue, disrupting their supply chain, and reducing funds available for other criminal activities.
“Removing this quantity from circulation also helps protect vulnerable communities from the social and economic harm associated with narcotics,” he added.
He further assured that under the leadership of Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the command will intensify patrols and intelligence-driven operations to curb drug trafficking across the state.
