A fight has broken out between the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Kogi State after the anti-narcotics officials tried to arrest a Police Inspector’s wife for allegedly selling cannabis.

It was gathered that the Inspector’s wife was caught with a bag of Cannabis Sativa and other illicit drugs at the A Division of Police Station in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

The wife of the Inspector was said to have been distributing the illicit drugs to some persons at the station from her husband’s car, an ash Volkswagen.

It was learned that during the distribution, the NDLEA operatives swung in and attempted to take her away with the vehicle, but some police officers interfered and stopped their operation, which led to a fight between the two agencies.

“A police Inspector’s wife was arrested by NDLEA yesterday inside A division in Kogi. Bags of cannabis sativa, and an ash Volkswagen belonging to her husband were recovered. However, her husband’s police colleagues clashed with the NDLEA officers until their boss came in,” a resident of the area said.

Another source said the woman’s husband, an Inspector, had parked his car in front of his office while his wife was using the same to distribute the Cannabis Sativa.

The source added: “However, some policemen tried to stop the NDLEA officers from carrying out their lawful duty until the situation was calmed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police heading the Division.

“The woman and her husband’s car containing the bags of weeds and other illicit drugs were later taken to the NDLEA office in Lokoja for further investigation. She has so far admitted to the act.”

Meanwhile, neither the police nor the anti-drug agency has spoken on the incident as of press time.
