NDLEA seized tons of tramadol, cannabis in Edo, Kaduna, Oyo

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized tons of tramadol and cannabis following raids in Edo, Kaduna, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo states.

The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, made this known via a statement issued and made available to The Star on Sunday.

Babafemi disclosed that a pharmacy along Sapele Road, Benin, Edo State was raided on Friday, May 27 following intelligence and prolonged surveillance.

He noted that the owner of the store, Thaddeus Uliagbafusi, aged 58, was arrested while a total of 130,670 tablets of different controlled drugs, 1,396 ampoules of pentazocine injection and 743 bottles of codeine were recovered from a secret location where the drugs were repackaged.

“This followed a similar raid of a drug joint operated by Mrs. Christianah Gabriel, 53, at Uromi, Esan North East LGA, Edo State, who was arrested with 25kg cannabis,” he stated.

The NDLEA spokesman added that 15, 000 ampoules of pentazocine injection were seized by the anti-drug operatives in Kaduna along Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

He stated that 12,500 tablets of Diazepam were intercepted along Okene-Abuja highway on Thursday, May 26, adding that the drug exhibits were found inside a truck conveying motor spare parts from Onitsha, Anambra to Kaduna State.

Babafemi further noted that a female drug dealer, Irene Emmanuel Bassey, was arrested on Saturday, May 28 during a search of her house at Ikpa town in Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

He stated that 30.5kg of cannabis was recovered from the suspect.

The NDLEA spokesperson added that one Muideen Rasaki was also arrested on Saturday by the anti-narcotic operatives with 90.8kg cannabis at Elere, Boluwaji area of Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Speaking on the arrests and seizures, the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the anti-narcotic officers, urging them and their compatriots across the country not to relent in their offensive action against drug cartels and their kingpins.
