NDLEA thwarts Osun forest drug syndicate, seizes 11,135kg of skunk

A major drug trafficking syndicate operating inside the Orita-Apeje and Araromi-Okeodo forest reserve in Ife South LGA, Osun State, has been busted by NDLEA operatives.

Following days of surveillance, the agency stormed the forest on Tuesday, November 11, and halted the loading and nationwide distribution of a massive consignment of processed skunk weighing 11,135 kilograms.

Two trucks— a Volvo (WWR 29 XA) and a Mercedes (AWK 713 YZ)—being prepared to move the drugs were seized.

Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the operation: Lucky Abiodun, Julius Amos, Victor Ngbikili, Sunday Oduegwu, Ibrahim Akanni, Eze Godstime, and Fred Ifeanyichukwu.

The seizure is one of the largest recorded in the South-West in recent years, highlighting the expansion of drug cartels into remote forest areas.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the Osun Command for the successful operation.
