A Nigerian man, Phillip Elobuike, has been reunited with his family in the United States after reportedly being missing for about 10 years.
Elobuike was found wandering the streets of Dallas, Texas, on Sunday, August 9, by a Nigerian woman who became concerned about his condition after noticing him carrying bags containing his personal belongings.
The woman approached him and engaged him in conversation. During their interaction, Elobuike reportedly disclosed that he was from Enugu State and mentioned the names of his mother, Evelyn, and sister, Josephine Elobuike.
Concerned about his situation, the woman recorded a video of him and shared it on social media, appealing to members of the public to help locate his relatives.
The appeal yielded results within hours, as Elobuike’s uncle and sister contacted the woman after seeing the video.
They reportedly told her that the family had not seen Elobuike for approximately 10 years.
According to the woman, the video was also shared in a WhatsApp group where one of Elobuike’s relatives was a member, enabling his uncle to recognise and identify him.
The development eventually led to contact between Elobuike and his family, bringing an end to years of uncertainty over his whereabouts.
The woman thanked social media users and others who helped circulate the video and facilitate the reunion.
