Nigerian policewoman wins WBF Super Bantamweight title in London

A Nigerian female police officer, Mary Yetunde Aina, has won the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) International Super Bantamweight belt in Portslade, London.

Aina, who won the Bantamweight title on Friday, defeated United Kingdom’s Laura Pain.

However, the policewoman has been been graduated by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba.

The IGP, who felicitated with Aina via a statement issued on Sunday by the acting Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that she has distinguished herself greatly in the boxing sphere.

He noted that Aina has won several awards and recommendations as a boxing referee at the amateur level.

“She is equally a renowned boxing judge and professional boxer with a clean sheet and several amateur wins to her name,” the IGP was quoted as saying.

Baba added that the officer, nicknamed Iron Abbey, served in the Lagos State Police Command.
