Nnaji: My resignation from Tinubu’s cabinet was personal decision

The former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has clarified that his resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet is not an admission of guilt but a personal and principled decision.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Nnaji said he chose to step aside to allow due process to take its course amid allegations of certificate forgery levelled against him.

Nnaji, who was appointed minister in August 2023, resigned this week following widespread reports accusing him of falsifying academic credentials.

He described the allegations as part of an “orchestrated, politically motivated campaign of falsehood” aimed at tarnishing his image.

According to him, the malicious media reports caused personal distress and distracted him from carrying out his official duties.

“For over five decades, I have built a reputation anchored on hard work, honour, and service to humanity,” he said.

“I could not, in good conscience, allow these distortions to cast a shadow over the noble objectives of the present administration.”

Nnaji emphasized that his resignation was not an admission of wrongdoing, but a decision taken in respect of the judicial process and to uphold the integrity of government institutions.

“My decision to step aside is therefore a personal choice, not an admission of guilt.

“It is a principled decision to respect the sanctity of due process and to preserve the integrity of the judicial proceedings currently before the court,” he said.

The former minister expressed confidence that justice would eventually prevail, saying, “In the end, justice will vindicate the just.”
