The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the controversial tinted glass permit after receiving a court order halting the exercise.
The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development during an interview on AIT in Abuja on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
She explained that the directive to suspend the operation took effect immediately after the court order was officially received.
“Information reaching me now is that the order has been received, and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold,” Adeh said.
The suspension comes amid widespread criticism and legal challenges over the legality, transparency, and alleged extortion associated with the permit process.
Addressing claims that the policy was a revenue scheme for police officers, Adeh refuted such allegations, clarifying that all payments for tinted permits are made directly into the federal government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA).
She emphasised that the policy was introduced purely for security reasons, following reports that criminals were using vehicles with tinted windows to evade detection.
“It is basically because of security concerns. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” the police spokesperson said.
Adeh reaffirmed the police’s respect for the rule of law, adding that enforcement would remain suspended until the court concludes its deliberations.
“We are waiting for the verdict; we are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” she stated.
