‘Not correct’: Ikeja Electric debunks list on Lagos areas enjoying 20-24hrs power supply

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) has debunked a report showing a list of areas in Lagos State on 20 to 24 hours power supply.

An online news medium (Not The Star) had posted the subscribers of the Band A tariff plan who purportedly benefit from 20 to 24 hours of power supply from Ikeja Electric.

The report followed the increase of the electricity tariff for customers under the Band A classification by the Federal Government on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

However, Ikeja Electric, in a statement issued on Thursday, April 4, described the list as false, saying the information contained in the report are not correct and did not emanate from the company.

It said: “It has come to our notice of an online publication currently in circulation with a purported list of areas in Lagos State and within the Ikeja Electric network on 20-24 hours power supply in line with the Band A feeder arrangement.

“The public is hereby advised to disregard the said publication as the information contained therein are not correct and did not emanate from Ikeja Electric.

FG increases electricity tariff for customers

“All communications regarding the above will be made available through our official communication channels.”

The Star had reported that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved the increase of the electricity tariff for Band A customers in the country.

Customers under Band A are those who enjoy 20 hours of electricity supply daily.

The NERC Vice Chairman, Musliu Oseni, who announced the increase in Abuja on Wednesday, said Band A customers, with the electricity tariff increase, will henceforth pay N225 kilowatt per hour from the current N66.

Oseni added that the review will not affect customers on other Bands.

The NERC Vice Chairman, who disclosed that customers in Band A represent a 15 per cent of the 12 million electricity customers in Nigeria, said the commission had also downgraded some customers on the Band A to Band B due to non-fulfilment of the required hours of electricity provided by the electricity distribution companies.
