The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has set an ambitious revenue target of ₦1.28 trillion for 2025, representing a 40% increase from the ₦894.86 billion realised in 2024.
Managing Director of NPA, Mr. Abubakar Dantsoho, disclosed this during the agency’s 2025 budget defence before the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbours in Abuja on Monday.
Dantsoho stated that the proposed revenue reflects more than figures, but the agency’s drive toward building a more efficient and globally competitive port system.
According to him, the 2025 revenue is expected to come from multiple streams: ₦544.06 billion from ship dues, ₦413.06 billion from cargo dues, ₦249.69 billion from concession fees, and ₦73.07 billion from administrative revenue.
He also noted that NPA surpassed its 2024 revenue target of ₦865.39 billion, generating ₦894.86 billion despite operational constraints. “This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to national revenue growth,” Dantsoho said.
Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Nnolim Nnaji, commended the agency’s performance but challenged it to do more in improving port infrastructure and contributing to job creation and economic development.
“Ports are the heartbeat of any economy,” Nnaji remarked. “Beyond revenue, the NPA must position itself as a catalyst for employment and industrial growth. We expect to see clear strategies in your 2025 budget to that effect.”
He emphasized that a high-performing port system is vital to Nigeria’s economic sustainability, stressing the need for the NPA to overcome operational challenges and meet national expectations.
