NRC resumes Abuja–Kaduna train service after safety checks

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of passenger services on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor after weeks of suspension.

In a statement on Wednesday, the NRC said all safety, technical, and operational inspections had been completed, assuring travelers of smooth and secure operations.

“It also declared Wednesdays as routine maintenance days for the service.

“The NRC appreciates the patience and understanding of Nigerians during the suspension period,” the statement read.

“We remain committed to delivering safe, affordable, and efficient rail transport that drives national connectivity and growth.”

The suspension followed an August 26 derailment — the second in just over a year at the same station. An investigation by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) linked the incident to defective infrastructure and lapses in safety management.

NRC spokesperson Callistus Unyimadu confirmed that services would only resume after the corporation was fully satisfied with safety standards.
