Nurse slumps, dies on duty in Zamfara

A nurse in the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Zamfara State, Asma’u Lawali Bungudu, has slumped and died in the hospital.

It was gathered that the nurse, who was hale and hearty when she arrived at the hospital for work on Wednesday morning, was confirmed dead a few hours after she resumed duty.

Confirming the incident, the hospital spokesman, Auwal Usman, said Bungudu was at her duty post and had checked the blood pressure of about 30 patients before she complained about a cardiac issue to a doctor.

Usman disclosed that the nurse slumped after her complaint.

“The medical doctors tried all they could to save her life but they couldn’t as she died instantly,” he added.

Usman stated that the management team of the hospital led by the Medical Director, Dr Usman Muhammad Shanawa, has handed over the corpse to the relatives of the deceased.

Speaking on the incident, a family member of the nurse said she left home hale and hearty on Wednesday morning and went to the hospital where she works without any health complaints.

“She was buried today by 5 pm at Malan Abdurrahaman House, Magama Area, Bungudu according to Islamic injunction,” the relative added.
