Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive audit of electricity consumption as part of efforts to improve power supply and move toward round-the-clock electricity.
The governor disclosed this during an unscheduled inspection of a 4-megawatt gas-fired Independent Power Plant in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
Abiodun said the audit would help the state government determine actual energy usage, track distribution from the plant, and identify leakages as well as cases of electricity theft within the system.
He explained that the initiative follows the state’s expanded authority to generate, transmit, and distribute power, noting that accurate data is critical to improving efficiency.
Describing electricity as central to industrial growth, the governor said the Oke-Mosan facility—part of the Ogun State Light-Up Project—would contribute to the state’s drive for energy self-sufficiency and ensure wider access to power.
He added that both the 4-megawatt plant in Oke-Mosan and the 34-megawatt facility in Onijanganjangan are designed for future expansion, while power distribution infrastructure across the state has also been upgraded.
Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering stable electricity to residents and businesses, stressing that reliable power remains key to attracting investment.
“This installation aligns with our promise to deliver results. We are focused on ensuring consistent and efficient power supply,” he said.
The governor also revealed that the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission will oversee electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within the state.
According to him, ongoing investments in the power sector are aimed at positioning Ogun as a preferred destination for investors, with the long-term goal of providing affordable and uninterrupted electricity across the state.
