One dead as three storey building collapses in Kano

One person was confirmed dead while another was injured after a newly constructed three storey building on Unity Road in Fagge local government of Kano State collapsed.

The building, which was undergoing finishing touches, collapsed at about 12:40pm on Tuesday, leaving two workers affected.

The operatives of the Kano State Fire Service, who were at the scene of the incident, confirmed one person dead, while another worker was injured.

The spokesman for the agency, Saminu Abdullahi, who spoke to The Star, said: “Two people were trapped. We rescued one alive. One dead.”

He added: “Around 12: 40pm, we were called that a building collapsed at Unity Road. Our officers arrived almost immediately and rescued one worker alive but injured. And another one was confirmed dead.

“The injured is receiving treatment at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital,” Abdullahi disclosed.

The building, which was positioned in a very tight location amid other storey buildings, had shops before it collapsed on Tuesday afternoon.
