Adebayo Adedamola has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2026 gubernatorial election in Osun State.
Adedamola’s emergence followed the party’s governorship primary election held in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Primary Committee, Humphrey Abba, said Adedamola garnered 919 votes out of 957 cast by accredited delegates.
Abba disclosed that 20 votes were voided, adding that one of the aspirants had earlier withdrawn from the race.
Gov Adeleke dumps PDP amid national leadership crisis
“The candidate who got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned,” he said.
The development comes despite the appearance of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s name on the ballot — just hours after news broke of his formal resignation from the PDP.
Earlier, the Secretary of the Primary Committee, Sunday Solarin, while announcing the commencement of voting at about 11:35 a.m. after delegate accreditation, said Adeleke and Adedamola were originally listed as the two aspirants but said the governor’s resignation rendered any vote cast for him “a waste.”
According to the INEC timetable for the August 8, 2026, governorship election, political parties have until December 15 to submit the names of their candidates.
