At least 30 people have died and several others injured in a tragic road accident involving a trailer in Kwanar Barde, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The trailer was reportedly heading towards Gujungu, Jigawa State when the crash occurred early Sunday morning.
Preliminary reports suggest the accident was caused by reckless driving, leaving many passengers with serious injuries.
Reacting to the incident, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf described the tragedy as “heartbreaking” and a significant loss to the victims’ families and the people of the state.
His comments were conveyed in a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano.
“Governor Yusuf prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked Allah to grant their families the strength to bear this painful loss.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those currently receiving treatment in hospitals,” the statement read.
The governor has directed the Kano State Ministry of Health to provide free and adequate medical care to all victims and instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to assess the situation and support affected families.
Governor Yusuf also issued a stern warning to motorists, particularly drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, urging strict compliance with traffic regulations to prevent future accidents.
Medical and humanitarian teams have been deployed to assist the injured and provide relief to families affected by the tragedy.
