Passenger sent to prison for slapping Ibom Air crew members

The passenger who assaulted airline officials on an Ibom Air flight inbound Lagos from Uyo, Comfort Emmanson, has been remanded over the incident.

Tunde Moshood, the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this via a post on his X account on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Moshood said Emmanson has been remanded in Kirikiri correctional facility in Lagos.

“The more reason the flying public should be more careful, the unruly passenger on Uyo-Lagos bound Ibom Air, Miss Comfort Emmanson, has been charged to court and she’s now cooling off in Kirikiri,” the minister’s aide wrote.

Videos trending on social media had shown Emmanson attacking flight attendants on an Ibom Air plane and confronting airport security officials.

Ibom Air speaks on Lagos airport incident, places travel restriction on passenger

Ibom Air, in a statement on Monday, said the incident began shortly before take-off from Uyo when the passenger refused to comply with standard aviation safety procedures requiring her to switch off her mobile phone.

The airline stated that Emmanson’s conduct posed “a serious threat to the safety of our crew, passengers, and aircraft.”

It noted that it has since submitted a report on the incident which occurred on Sunday to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), adding that it has placed a travel restriction on Emmanson.
